"Sittin' on the dock of the bay"

Highcliffe Beach

Highcliffe is a popular resort beach on the east Dorset coast, looking out across Christchurch Bay with views of the Isle of Wight to the east. The shingle beach has numerous groynes and a moderate slope, flattening to shallow sandy flats that are exposed when the tide retreats. Behind the beach are cliffs and a shoreline promenade which provides access to the town and to the coast road at the top of the cliff.

Important! Tide times are for the nearest measurement point and may not be accurate for this location. You should not rely on these times for anything other than a broad indication of when the tide will be at its highest or lowest.

In particular, these tide times are not suitable for navigational use. Accurate tide forecasts require complex calculations and detailed local information. If you intend to engage in any activity for which tidal information is important for safety reasons (including sailing, powerboating, diving, and surfing) then you should obtain professional data.

Tell us what you think about Highcliffe Beach

A very attractive area of coast where breakwaters have created a series of cove-like sand and shingle beaches. Well known for body boarding and swimming. The Cliffhanger Café with toilet facilities is located on the cliff top next to the large car park and offers great views to the Isle of Wight. There is a surfaced wheelchair route from Waterford Road to Chewton Glen. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between Groyne H8 and H11 between 1 May and 30 September, but are permitted on the gravel promenade if on a lead. Highcliffe Castle and Highcliffe village are both a short walk away.
